This year, my 31 year old Palomino/Quarter Horse, Gold Cedar, became very stiff. He would lay down at night to rest his weary body and stay down until I went up to the barn in the morning. Because he was laying down for so long and he was so stiff and sore, I had to put a halter on him and encourage him to get up. I felt so bad that I started to get up between 2:00 and 3:00 a.m. every morning and went up to the barn to get Cedar up on his feet.
