Dear Springtime,

I own and operate a horse rescue in Massachusetts by the name of Smokey Chestnut Farm. Two years ago I rescued Annie and Helen, a bonded pair of blind Belgian mares who were on their way to slaughter. 25-year-old Annie was much older than Helen, and struggled physically. It was very difficult for her to get up from a resting position. Even when she was standing she would continuously shift her weight from back leg to the other back leg.
